September 2018: After months of work submitted a manuscript to the Water Research journal. Title – “Reduction of reagent requirements and sludge generation in Fenton’s oxidation of landfill leachate by synergistically incorporating forward osmosis and humic acid recovery”.

August 2018: Paper accepted in the Water Reseach journal- A Review of Landfill Leachate Induced Ultraviolet Quenching Substances: Sources, Characteristics, and Treatment.

August 2018: Gave a talk on “Advanced oxidation for wastewater treatment” in the Annual Virginia Tech Wastewater Operator Short School.

June 2018: After months of work submitted a manuscript in the Water Research journal. Title – “Effects of Landfill Leachate Induced Ultraviolet Quenching Substances on Wastewater Treatment: A Review”.

April 2018: Selected for the Virginia Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering Teaching Fellow Program – Fall 2018. Will teach ‘Introduction to Environmental Engineering’ in the fall of 2018. 

April 2018: Gave a poster presentation on “An Integrated forward osmosis – microbial desalination cell technique for enhanced water recovery from landfill leachate” in the Eighth annual CEE research day, Virginia Tech, VA.

March 2018: Gave a poster presentation on “Enhancing the recovery of humic acids from landfill leachate using forward osmosis and its application in the Fenton’s oxidation of Benzene” in the 34th Graduate Student Assembly (GSA) symposium, Virginia Tech, VA.

March 2018: Visited Dr. Shihong Lin’s lab at the Vanderbilt University. Thanks to Dr. Lin and his graduate student Zhangxin Wang for an awesome training on membrane distillation. 

February 2018: Gave a talk on the “Simultaneous energy generation and ultraviolet quenchers removal from landfill leachate using a microbial fuel cell” in the Global Waste Management Symposium 2018 at Palm Springs, California, February 11-14…..great experience!

January 2018: Paper got accepted in the Bioresource Technology journal. Title – “Enhancing Forward Osmosis Water Recovery from Landfill Leachate by Desalinating Brine and Recovering Ammonia in a Microbial Desalination Cell” Yayaaiii..

November 2017: Submitted a manuscript to the Bioresource Technology journal. Title – “Enhancing Forward Osmosis Water Recovery from Landfill Leachate by Desalinating Brine and Recovering Ammonia in a Microbial Desalination Cell”.

October 2017: Paper got accepted in the Environmental Science: Water Research and Technology journal. Title – “Percarbonate Oxidation of Landfill Leachate towards Removal of Ultraviolet Quenchers”. Yaaiii!!!

September 2017: Successfully defended my Ph.D. preliminary exam!! Yiiiii!!!

September 2017: Paper got accepted in the Environmental Science and Pollution Research journal. Title – “Simultaneous Energy Generation and UV Quencher Removal from Landfill Leachate Using a Microbial Fuel Cell”. Yayyyyyy!!!

August 2017: This time got a major revision and resubmission request from Environmental Science: Water Research & Technology journal. Title – “Percarbonate Oxidation of Landfill Leachate towards Removal of Ultraviolet Quenchers”. Running a marathon with this study!!

August 2017: EREF scholarship got an extension for another year (till Aug 2018). Thanks to the EREF. Thanks to all its stakeholders and all the kind-hearted donors. Motivation got a massive boost [2X I Guess :)]

August 2017: Paper got rejected by the Chemosphere journal. After major revision, submitted in the  Environmental Science: Water Research & Technology journal. Title – “Percarbonate Oxidation of Landfill Leachate towards Removal of Ultraviolet Quenchers”.

July 2017: Submitted a manuscript in the Environmental Science and Pollution Research journal. Title – “Simultaneous Energy Generation and UV Quenchers Removal from Landfill Leachate Using a Microbial Fuel Cell”. All thanks go to my super-active advisor and co-authors.

June 2017: Attended AEESP 2017 Conference at Ann Arbor Michigan. Presented a poster on integrated forward osmosis – microbial desalination. Met so many great researchers.

June 2017: Our team NEW SEA earned the runner-up position in the Environmental Challenge International (ECi) competition in the Air and Waste Management Association conference in Pittsburgh.

May 2017: Submitted a manuscript to the Chemosphere journal. Title – “Percarbonate Oxidation of Landfill Leachate towards Removal of Ultraviolet Quenchers”. All thanks go to my super-active advisor and co-authors.

May 2017: Gave a talk in the EREF WasteExpo 2017 on “An Integrated forward osmosis – microbial desalination cell technique for enhanced water recovery from landfill leachate.” Talked in front of the biggest audience of my life. Met so many great people including Frank J. DeOrio from OBG. This world is full of so many great people.

May 2017: Got the Virginia Tech Graduate Student Association (GSA) travel fund to attend the AEESP 2017 conference at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

March 2017: Won the ‘1st Place Interdisciplinary Scholar Award’ in oral presentation category – 33rd Annual Graduate Student Assembly Research Symposium, Virginia Tech.

March 2017: Presented ‘Integrating microbial desalination with forward osmosis to complement water recovery from landfill leachate’ in the 33rd Annual Graduate Student Assembly Research Symposium, Virginia Tech.

March 2017: Second paper as an EBBL member got accepted in the Waste Management journal.

February 2017: Presented a poster at the Borchardt conference 2017 at Ann Arbor, Michigan.
